Incubated in 2019 by Luminate (part of the Omidyar Group) with the Sandler Foundation, Reset operated for years as a fiscally-sponsored project before becoming a fully independent global not-for-profit on 1 January 2024. Its DSA and platform-integrity investigations are widely cited by EU regulators, journalists and fellow watchdogs.
